Signs your roof took storm damage

  • Missing, lifted or creased shingles, especially along ridges and edges
  • Shingle granules collecting in gutters or at the bottom of downspouts
  • Dents or bruises on shingles, vents, gutters and flashing after hail
  • Bent or loose drip edge, flashing or pipe boots
  • Water stains on ceilings or walls, or a musty smell in the attic
  • Fallen limbs or debris that hit the roof

What to do after the storm

  1. Stay safe first. Stay off a damaged roof and away from downed lines. Wet decking and loose shingles are slick and can give way.
  2. Take photos. Photograph the roof from the ground, any debris, and every water stain inside. Date-stamped photos help whoever reviews the damage.
  3. Stop more water if you can do it safely. Move belongings, set out buckets, and keep water off floors. A tarp should only go on from a ladder by someone trained to do it.
  4. Call your insurance company. If you plan to file a claim, contact your insurer to check your coverage, deductible and policy terms before you sign any repair contract.
  5. Get a roof inspection. We walk the roof, photograph what we find, and give you a written, itemized estimate for the repair or replacement.

What a storm inspection includes

  • Every slope, checked up close — shingles, ridge cap, flashing, vents, pipe boots, drip edge and gutters.
  • Photos of everything we find — so you can see the damage without climbing up.
  • Inside, too — ceiling stains, attic moisture and soft decking.
  • A written, itemized estimate — every line item with a quantity and price.

About insurance

Your insurance company decides what your policy covers. Florida law doesn't allow a roofing contractor to interpret your policy, advise you on coverage, or negotiate a claim for you — that's your insurer or a licensed public adjuster. We never waive, pay or rebate a deductible. What we can give you is an honest inspection, clear photos, and an itemized estimate.
